Cover Work For 18th November 2013Evaluation Controlled assessment 5Sorry that I am not in today - training calls! As you know this hour is your last hour to complete your evaluation document. The instructions slide is included in this blog post. Make sure that all bags are at the front of the room and that all phones go in the red tray at the front of the room and are switched off. I expect everyone to make the most of this final hour so that you can get as many marks as possible. Section 5 of your evaluation is the Evaluation section and you need to be identifying areas of STRENGTHS (and explaining why they are strengths), AREAS FOR DEVELOPMENT (things you would want to improve on) and FUTURE CHANGES (how you would improve them). Remember the more detailed you make your responses the more marks you will get. You can use your notes from last lesson to help you. If you finish this section - which you should - then spend the rest of the time adding detail or completing section 1-4. The whole thing should be finished by the end of today!

Today we spent time preparing for section 5 of the B324 evaluation. We looked at the strengths of your magazine pages - and reasons why the features are strengths. We also began to explore what areas of your pages can be identified as areas for development and how you would improve on these features in the future. It is important that you approach this part of the evaluation honestly and with candour because if you are too negative and cannot pick out any strengths then you will lose marks and if you are too positive and identify no areas for development then you are not showing the level of detailed understanding that is required at this level - get the balance right! This section should not take long to complete which will give you extra time to add detail to anything that is incomplete about sections 1-3.
Evaluation Controlled Assessment 4With only one hour and one section to go your evaluations should be taking shape. You need to be using any spare time after these short sections to go back and add detail to the bigger sections like sections 1, 2 and 3. It was good to see a variety of people using the graphs and the online survey in their evaluation sections. Those that had not gather enough responses need to make sure that you have done so by the next controlled assessment lesson next week so that you can use them to complete section 4 then. The next section of the evaluation is focused on what you think has gone well in the production and what changes you would like to make. You can be thinking about your ideas and we will have a preparation lesson for it on Thursday afternoon.
Today we spent some time on www.freeonlinesurveys.com putting together some surveys to gather audience responses to your media products. This will be an important part of next lesson as you complete section 4 of you evaluation which will entail gathering the information from this survey and adding the quotations from your focus group work. This section should be very quick if you get the online survey completed and should allow you some further time to add detail to previous sections of your evaluation.
After today's lesson you should have quotations from your peers that you can use as evidence of a focus group approach to gathering audience responses to your products. It is important that you show that you can seek the opinion of an audience in a variety of ways. The focus group provides qualitative information as it explores what people think and feel. Next lesson you need to use a quantitative method of audience research by conducting an audience survey. We will be using a free online survey to conduct the research and to provide us with graphs and response data that we can use in the evaluation.
Evaluation Controlled Assessment 3Today you looked at how your research and planning tasks had impacted on your final products and gathered evidence to help you evaluate the success of this research and planning. It was good to see a number of you finish and move on to adding detail to the earlier sections of the evaluation. Next lesson we will look at the next section of the evaluation and also prepare you for the audience feedback section of the evaluation which will involve some Home Learning which will make this section very easy to complete.
Evaluation Controlled Assessment 2Section 2 of the evaluation is all about explaining how your text appeals to your target audience. Most of you managed to complete or get close to completing this section. You do need to keep the pace up as time is short for the evaluation and you need to make sure that you are securing as many marks as possible. Next lesson we will start to explore the impact that planning had on the development of the project and how we might go about showing this in our evaluation presentation.
Today we looked at audiences and how we have targeted specific audiences with the magazines that have been created. We have looked at Demographics, Lifestyle Segmentation and Rubicam and Young's 4C's. Remember that in your controlled assessment period you should be outlining the features of your magazine that you think would attract your target audience b y labelling these features on the magazine pages. Remember to be detailed and thorough in your analysis. Reminder of the audience classification systems are below.
Evaluation Controlled Assessment 1Over this hour you had the opportunity to explore how you have used codes and conventions in your magazine work and to demonstrate that you have understood the conventions of magazines and how they work. None of you will have completed this in the session but many of you made a very good start. You will find that there are shorter sections of the evaluation which will provide you with time to go back and add to this first and important section of the evaluation.
