Equipment Loan Policy and Letter
All AS and GCSE Media Studies students were given the letter that is reproduced below, outlining the policy on borrowing the school's equipment for the purpose of completing their practical projects, at the start of their course. Under no circumstances will equipment be lent to students who do not have the counter-part of this letter signed by a parent and kept on record at school.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Your son/daughter has opted to complete a GCSE/A-level course in Media Studies/Photography. As you may know, the course requires an element of practical work involving video production/photography.
In order for the students to reach their potential we have decided that the equipment should be made available to them outside of school hours so that they can use it during holidays, weekends and evenings. This equipment is vital to the school and success of the students so it is important that we protect it.
There is a detailed signing out system in place, an example of which is enclosed with this letter. Students should ensure that all items checked out are in full working order when they are signed out – or that details of any defects are noted. Signing out/in times are every Friday in D5 at lunchtime and 3:10-3:30pm.
Whilst the equipment is out of the school it is not covered by the school's insurance. As a result we are asking for parents to accept full responsibility and agree to reimburse the school for any loss or damage. We strongly recommend that you check that your home and contents insurance would cover theft, loss of, or damage to this equipment whilst being used by your son/daughter. Unfortunately we will not be able to lend any equipment to students who do not have signed permission on file.
If you agree to accept full responsibility on this basis please sign the slip below and return it to Mr. Harris.
Yours Faithfully
