Controlled Assessment 1 of 2Another chance to improve your final product and put some of the advice gained last lesson into action. Many of you are putting some very effective final touches to your magazine pages. Others still need to make sure that photographs are taken before next lesson so that you can place them and make any changes of layout accordingly during the next hour of controlled assessment.

Some good conversations were had today as you gave feedback to one another. Many of you have a clear idea of what needs doing over the next few controlled assessment lessons. If you need to take photos then this needs to be your biggest priority. Controlled Assessment 4 of 4That's it...time is up. You should now have completed all 4 of your magazine pages in readiness for your peer assessment lesson. This will take place next lesson and will involve you forming small focus groups to discuss the work that you have completed so far and the areas that you need to improve. It is a very good opportunity to look at what others have done, ask questions, consider how your products measure up and gain ideas and insight from your peers. You need to come with an open mind and the ability to take and make constructive criticism.
We are now moving towards the end of these controlled assessment lessons and for many of you things are taking shape well. Many of you still need to take some photographs in order to use them in your page layouts. This now needs to be a meter of urgency as you will need to use them in your final controlled assessment lesson on Wednesday. It would be a shame to get to the peer assessment lesson and not be able to have a finished set of pages to get feedback on. This will not only effect your production mark but also give you less to write about in your evaluation.
Controlled Assessment 2 of 4Some good progress made today. You are now halfway through your first set of controlled assessments for the new magazine pages. Many of your projects are really taking shape but you need to make sure that you arrange to take your photographs, or bring then in, next week or you will miss the opportunity to get feedback on it and improve it during the next controlled assessment block. This will make a big difference. Let us make the most of the time that we have on this project - being incomplete will result in much lower marks.
controlled assessment 1 of 4This was your first controlled assessment out of a block of four. Many of you made a great start and have made incredible progress in producing your magazine pages. If you keep up this pace then you will produce something to be proud of over the course of the next few lessons. Some of you still have much work to do and will need all of the time that you have to finish of your pages to a high standard.
Remember that you need to arrange for your photographs to be taken - or to bring in appropriate photographs - for your magazine pages. Make sure that they link to your photo planning so that you can get marks for the planning of them. Today we focused on what was needed to produce an A/A* quality article so that you can redraft your work and ensure that it is written in an appropriate style for your target audience. Even if you produced your double page spread last year there is still time to look back and improve your draft so that you can get extra marks for a better product as well as securing marks for the planning and redrafting of it. Make the most of this time and it will be beneficial to you.
Some people made a very good starting to drafting the text for their additional pages. Others need to be working much harder and focus more. We have two lessons left making sure that the text is as good as it can be. It is all very well and good creating a magazine page that looks good but if the content lacks detail, accuracy and is not written in an appropriate style then it will be reflected in the final marks. Let's make sure that we make these next two lessons count.
You made a very good start to designing your additional magazine pages. You should remember that the simple ideas will give you the best opportunity on focusing on doing things right rather than doing lots of things. Next lesson we will consider the photographs that are needed for the layout and how we might go about planning for them. Make sure that you come with some ideas ready to put them into action. You should still be looking at magazines for inspiration whenever you can.
