Some really interesting choices of contrasting videos. Thanks to KEEPVID working in school many people found the videos they wanted. Lots of use of Lady Gaga, which creates some very interesting issues about representations being both stereotypes and countertypes at the same size. This is a really brave move and could give access to some very high marks if it is done in detail. Make sure that you cover all code areas and are writing in the same level of detail as you did for The PussyCat Dolls video.

Some really insightful comments made today. Most of you have some really detailed notes to take forward. It has concerned me that some individuals seem to be lacking some detail from the personal and performance codes that were covered at the end of last week. You would be well advised to try and fill some of these gaps. Remember that this assignment is worth 15% of your GCSE Media Studies grade - that's about a grade and a half! We will be moving on next lesson to look at how we can use these notes to start structuring and making the presentation for your assignment.
A very productive lesson. Loads of good notes and even better understanding shown. Very impressive. Before next week I would like you to have submitted a deconstruction of a countertype. Use the submission form on the home page. The most interesting and detailed will be turned into a blog post and posters for D5.
A difficult lesson today covering some really tough ideas. Most people do not encounter SEMIOLOGY until A Level or even university but you guys had a really good go. You need to remember what the different types of sign are so that you can analyise texts in real detail. This will allow you to access the higher grades at GCSE.
Also remember the different types of SIGN:
Feel free to comment on the parts of this that y In today's lesson we discussed how our view of the world was shaped and how it leads to us having shared views of masculinity and femininity. The toys we play with, the jobs we do and even how we look are all effected by representations that we encounter.
How do you think representations and views of masculinity and femininity might change in 100 years? Comment below on the factors that could change the way that we see men and women. |
