Evaluation Controlled Assessment 5Today was the fifth and last hour on your evaluation and everyone should have completed all five sections of the evaluation presentation. We will now be entering a period of intervention and reallocating time that people have missed through absence. It is important that you all make the most of any time that it owed to you and ensure that anything that you need for your product is in place in plenty of time. We will be starting this set of controlled assessment lessons next week so that I can have time to formulate some feedback for you all. Until then, sit tight and wait for news!
Today we spent time preparing for section 5 of the B324 evaluation. We looked at the strengths of your magazine pages - and reasons why the features are strengths. We also began to explore what areas of your pages can be identified as areas for development and how you would improve on these features in the future. It is important that you approach this part of the evaluation honestly and with candour because if you are too negative and cannot pick out any strengths then you will lose marks and if you are too positive and identify no areas for development then you are not showing the level of detailed understanding that is required at this level - get the balance right! This section should not take long to complete which will give you extra time to add detail to anything that is incomplete about sections 1-3.
Evaluation Controlled Assessment 4With only one hour and one section to go your evaluations should be taking shape. You need to be using any spare time after these short sections to go back and add detail to the bigger sections like sections 1, 2 and 3. It was good to see a variety of people using the graphs and the online survey in their evaluation sections. Those that had not gather enough responses need to make sure that you have done so by the next controlled assessment lesson next week so that you can use them to complete section 4 then. The next section of the evaluation is focused on what you think has gone well in the production and what changes you would like to make. You can be thinking about your ideas and we will have a preparation lesson for it on Friday afternoon.
Today we spent some time on www.freeonlinesurveys.com putting together some surveys to gather audience responses to your media products. This will be an important part of next lesson as you complete section 4 of you evaluation which will entail gathering the information from this survey and adding the quotations from your focus group work. This section should be very quick if you get the online survey completed and should allow you some further time to add detail to previous sections of your evaluation.
After today's lesson you should have quotations from your peers that you can use as evidence of a focus group approach to gathering audience responses to your products. It is important that you show that you can seek the opinion of an audience in a variety of ways. The focus group provides qualitative information as it explores what people think and feel. Next lesson you need to use a quantitative method of audience research by conducting an audience survey. We will be using a free online survey to conduct the research and to provide us with graphs and response data that we can use in the evaluation.
