Evaluation Controlled Assessment 2Section 2 of the evaluation is all about explaining how your text appeals to your target audience. Most of you managed to complete or get close to completing this section. You do need to keep the pace up as time is short for the evaluation and you need to make sure that you are securing as many marks as possible. Next lesson we will start to explore the impact that planning had on the development of the project and how we might go about showing this in our evaluation presentation.

Today we looked at audiences and how we have targeted specific audiences with the magazines that have been created. We have looked at Demographics, Lifestyle Segmentation and Rubicam and Young's 4C's. Remember that in your controlled assessment period you should be outlining the features of your magazine that you think would attract your target audience b y labelling these features on the magazine pages. Remember to be detailed and thorough in your analysis. Reminder of the audience classification systems are below.
Evaluation Controlled Assessment 1Over this hour you had the opportunity to explore how you have used codes and conventions in your magazine work and to demonstrate that you have understood the conventions of magazines and how they work. None of you will have completed this in the session but many of you made a very good start. You will find that there are shorter sections of the evaluation which will provide you with time to go back and add to this first and important section of the evaluation.
We had already gotten to grips with conventions and prepared for the evaluation controlled assessment by labelling the products that you have created. This approach will identify the conventions but today we moved on to thinking about how those conventions are formed by your manipulation of codes. We especially looked at your use of visual codes, technical codes and written codes. In order for you to get the most marks you should be able to identify how you have used these code areas to create effective conventions of the magazine pages. You will put this information to good use next lesson during our controlled assessment slot.
Today we started to prepare for the controlled assessment lessons that have been set aside for the evaluation. This carries 30 marks and can make two and a half grades difference to your final marks. We looked at how your products compared to existing media products by labelling all of the conventions that should be present on the magazine pages. Remember for extra marks you should explore why certain conventions are needed - how do they help the audience and the publisher? You will start this presentation next lesson and should complete this first session in this hour. Controlled Assessment 1 of 1The last hour has past and everyone should have completed the magazine pages. From next week we will be moving onto some preparation lessons for the evaluation and getting this document complete over the course of 5 controlled assessment lessons. Once again we will not do these as consecutive hours and there will be plenty of time spent in between them preparing you for the sections of the evaluation. Most of you should be very proud of what you have produced. There are still a significant number of you that are in danger of falling short of a mark that will allow you to access your target grade and as a result you may be required to complete a second Media Portfolio outside of lesson time.
Today you had the chance to look at the mark scheme very closely and use it to mark your work and someone else's. This should give you a clear idea of where you are scoring marks and where you might need to improve things in order to make sure that you are on target for this unit. For some of you the lesson should have made it clear how important the photographs are and it should hit home now how vital it is that your photographs are taken before next lesson so that you can include them in your magazine pages.
Controlled Assessment 2 of 2Time is up once again. You should now have reached the point where you have addressed all of the areas for improvement that were flagged up by your peer assessment lesson. There are still a select few of you that need photographs on your final pieces in order to avoid a disappointing set of marks when the products get marked. Next lesson we will be looking at the mark schemes and using them to assess where your products are currently. You will also be looking at the work of others and applying the same mark scheme. Some of you will be pleasantly surprised at the results of this. Others of you should realise the amount that you need to get done in your final hour of controlled assessment.
Controlled Assessment 1 of 2Another chance to improve your final product and put some of the advice gained last lesson into action. Many of you are putting some very effective final touches to your magazine pages. Others still need to make sure that photographs are taken before next lesson so that you can place them and make any changes of layout accordingly during the next hour of controlled assessment.
Some good conversations were had today as you gave feedback to one another. Many of you have a clear idea of what needs doing over the next few controlled assessment lessons. If you need to take photos then this needs to be your biggest priority.
