I think this is a countertype as when you look at the picture of homer Simpson you automatically think he is a lazy alcoholic as he is lay on the sofa drunk with t h a beer bottle in his hand and he is in his pants with suggests he is to lazy to get dressed, which is true.

So is this not how men are usually presented in the media? How is it different? Could this not be seen as the STEREOTYPE of the lazy man as opposed to the STEREOTYPE of the heroic man that Hollywood often presents? Or is this a COUNTERTYPE reacting against the heroic image that we see in action films and on our TV screens but less so in real life?

Homer Simpson is presented as a middle aged man who is an alcoholic due to him being drunk on the sofa and can't be bothered to get dressed. But most men in adverts on TV are presented as masculine and strong unlike Homer Simpson the lazy cartoon man. This isn't a stereotype because men on adverts are usually presented as very attractive, whereas Homer isn't.

I think Homer is a stereotype because most male cartoon characters are shown in the way that Homer is (obese, beer, only in his pants and a tank top) Comments are closed.
