We covered some very difficult ideas today that most people wouldn't eve attempt to cover with GCSE students. The first time I understood this idea was during my first year at university! You all coped very well with the ideas and started to apply it well. Remember that this idea gives us the idea of the two layers of meaning, namely DENOTATION (the surface meaning) and CONNOTATION (the hidden meanings). Welcome back after a long holiday - isn't it great to get back in the swing of things? Today we tackled some very difficult assumptions about masculinity and femininity and hopeful you are now beginning to question some of the social norms that we naturally take on board as being common sense. I am sorry for pointing out the inherent inequality between the sexes that our society has created - however here is your chance to maybe try and redress the balance if you think you can. remember the image shown here? Can you think of any other words that can be used to describe masculinity and femininity which could be seen as being more positive from a feminine point of view? What words would you like to see added to the list? Leave your comments. HOME LEARNING |
